Church/Cemetery History:

The cemetery was started in 1829, on land that was purchased from John Gresham by John Craig. It was located near the mouth of Mile Creek on the east side of the Keowee River. Because the construction of Lake Keowee was going to cause gravesite problems, the Duke Power Company agreed to move the cemetery. Current Craig family descendants decided on relocating the graves to the Duke Power Memorial, which is located in the Old Town of Pickens - near the C149 Old Pickens Presbyterian Church.

The Old Town of Pickens was the court district seat of Pickens county, which Oconee county was part of in 1868. The New Town of Pickens is located 15 miles east.
