............................ IN MEMORY OF PAULINE VIRGINIA MARBLE GOSSETT .....................

Pauline was the oldest child of Duane Pierce Marble and Magdalena Knapp's seven children. Outliving her siblings, Pauline lived a long and fruitful life.

Pauline, secretary and bookkeeper for Gossett Tree Service, she handled the complex financial aspects of the business, while her husband, FORREST PULLIAM "BUD GOSSETT " the proprietor, managed the business and the employees. She was more than just a record keeper, she was an accomplished and successful business woman. Also, she was a great focal point for family social gatherings and a musician. She could sit down and play a song on the piano in any key (one might request), a rare talent indeed. She also was an accomplished harpist.

Most family members cherish memories of the large family gatherings hosted by Aunt Pauline. The family gatherings or reunions were held at the Brentwood Estate in Hayesville, Ohio and at the Brookside Park home in Ashland, Ohio. Aunt Pauline always talked about her family to friends and family. She was interested in family stories and genealogy of the Gossett and the Marble surname. She treated each family individual with her own special care and love, which made each one of them feel unique. They were unique to her. She was hospitable to all, which would visit to her doorstep.

Smart, loving, talented, and beautiful woman, who was a great home and business keeper. Pauline was modern day woman with the good "ole" country touch. A touch that had a positive influence on the many whom was fortunate to know her.

In honor of her 90th birthday, a 90th Luncheon was held at the Tallahassee Garden Club, Tallahaseee, Florida, on July 22, 1995.

AWRENCE DUANE MARBLE:
IN MEMORY OF LAWRENCE DUANE MARBLE

A SOHIO (Standard Oil Company of Ohio) salesman, Lawrence spent a lot of his life traveling the highways of Ohio. Lawrence had a company car and a family car (57 Chevy Belair Sport Coupe) maroon (a dark brownish red chestnut color). What a car! Always kept freshly waxed and in top condition. On his travels, Lawrence would stop in and visit all his relatives. It was always a thrill for Thera Mae's boys, when Grandpa would unexpectedly drive his shiny car into the driveway. The boys enjoyed the smell of the Marlboro cigarettes, Grandpa would smoke during his visit. After Grandpa would leave, it seemed comforting to run back into the house to smell the lingering smoke, (a reminder of his presence). Grandpa brought a couple of bicycles to Brad and Randy. Bicycling was Brad and Randy's major and favorite pastime. Grandpa would take Thera's boys fishing for blue gills at Mifflin Lake, Knox Lake, and Mohawk Reservoir. Thera's boys would always try to amuse Grandpa; they enjoyed his laughter, a loud broken chuckle. When Thera went to Illinois to comfort her dying father Theodore Roberts, her boys stayed a with Lawrence and Elizabeth, (November 1964). Thera and her boys moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio were Grandpa and Elizabeth (Betty) resided at 105 North Division Street from 1945 to 1985 (40 years).
Lawrence Duane Marble retired from SOHIO after having multiple heart attacks, he had been employed with SOHIO for 36 years. He received a diamond headed lapel pin during his retirement ceremony at the Surrey Inn Restaurant in Ashland, Ohio. Lawrence had managed the SOHIO station on the corner of Main and Union Street of Ashland, Ohio for 15 years until October 1945 (pictured at top of page). Lawrence was then promoted by the Mansfield division of SOHIO to be Salesman and Regional Manager with his home base in Mount Vernon, Ohio. His job was to assure SOHIO Stations within his region met the SOHIO image, were well supplied, and provided customer satisfaction. Lawrence got tough when standards weren't met and he was well liked and respected.
Lawrence was quite a family man. The oldest son of Duane Pierce and Magdalena Marble, he is remembered well by his brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, children, and grand children as a busy, traveling salesman who found time to be part of all their lives.
Lawrence was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

Notes for M
ARY EDNA BAILEY:
Mary Edna, the youngest daughter of Robert Bradshaw BAILEY, was affectionately nicknamed "Red" by her siblings for her bright red hair. She had a domineering personality, which required a lot of attention. Mary also displayed that Irish temper (or was it the red hair); she often spoke in very strong language when angered. Yet, Mary was a beautiful loving individual, whom two Marble men could not resist.
Mary went to college in Selma, Alabama to be a legal secretary. During her college years she went to Pine Hill and Yellow Bluff Campgrounds (Wilcox County, Alabama), where Sam Hood Ball had a cabin.

The marriage of Mary Edna to Lawrence Duane MARBLE:

In the late 1920's, Lawrence Duane Marble, a salesman was travelling through Alabama distributing magazine literature. Edna's sister, Mattie Gertrude answered the door and talked to Lawrence. Mary Edna was in the back room and could hear the northern accent. She came into the front room and said, "Who is this Dam Yankee?" They were married 12 June 1928 in Reform, Alabama. They moved to Ashland, Ohio where she worked in a hat shop in 1937. Mary Edna often drew sketches of ladies fashions of the time.

Grandmother Mary Edna:

Mary had many affectionate nicknames from her 8 grandsons: Nanny, Granny, and Mustang Mary. She would arrive in her Ford Mustang and in a loud, long southern draw, she would say to her grandsons, "Give me some sugar, my darling". Full of life and love, she always gave a hearty welcome with big hugs. Mary's wrists and fingers would be adorn with bracelets and jewelry; wearing as many as ten rings at once. I counted them! Even though she smoked Sara toga cigarettes, she had perfect set of white teeth, which a doctor mistook as dentures. Another childhood memory of Grandmother Mary, was her delight in her flower garden and for the butterflies that flew in it.
