"Know all Men by these Presents, that we Thomas Palmer and John Palmer (his father) are held and frimly bound unto James P. Preston esquire, Governor of Virginia, in the just and full sume of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars, good and lawful money of this commonwealth, to which payment well and truly to be made, to the said Governor or his successors, we bind ourselves, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 27th day of April 1818.
"The Condition of the above obligation is such, that, Whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be held and solemnised between the above bound Thomas Palmer and Susan Hitt of Fauquier County; Now if ther be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Signed, Sealed and delivered, in the presence of Jno. A. W. Smith D.C>"

"Thomas Palmer and his sons, Loreman and William, came here in 1848. The father entered the east half of the northwest quarter of section 32, where he lived until the time of his death. Loreman entered the east half of the northwest quarter of section 32, and lived there until he died. William entered the east half of the northeast quarter of section 32. He lived there for some years; then sold out and removed to Missouri; but returned after a short stop, and has since died.

The town of Eagle was organized in 1853. The first town meeting was held in April of that year, when the following named were elected officers: Supervisors, C G Rodolf, chairman, Josiah Newburn and Thomas E Hesler; clerk, L B Palmer; treasurer, James Appleby; school superintendent, G D Sharp; justices of the peace, Thomas Palmer and Josiah Newburn; constable, William Sharp; assessor, L B Palmer; overseers of highway, David D Miller and John Thompson
