1. FRANCIS1 KINCANNON was born Abt. 1715 in Ireland, and died March 03, 1795 in Washington County, VA. He married ELIZABETH SUMMERS.

RANCIS KINCANNON:
"...immigrant ancestor was born ca. 1715, in Ireland and fled to America ca. 1735, from religious persecutions. He lived in York County, Pennsylvania for awhile and later, after acquiring a large tract of land, he moved to Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia, where he resided for the rest of his life with others of the family. He first appears in the Virginia Records in 1745. He designated part of his land for the purpose of worshipping and burial. In Virginia, the Kincannons were occupied as surveyors, executors of wills and deeds, planters, road overseerers and all business connected with the Courts. They were true Southern Aristocrats, people of strong character, high will-power and great ambitions. They were idealistic and quick tempered, and were wealthy, owning large parts of Wythe and Washington Counties. The Family Coat-of-Arms is or, a saltire gules, on a chief vert three trefoils slipped argent; Crest: Ademi-griffin, segreant vert, beaked and forelegged or."
"In the British Isles, the Kincannons supported the cause of the Orange-Irish Protestants and when they left for America, they fled from religious persecutions andhave been Presbyterians in Virginia ever since. the family originated in Ireland and large branches of it spread to Kirkcudbright and Dumfries Counties, Scotland."
"Francis' wife was Elizabeth Summers and when he died in 1795, his will was probated and is in Will Book #2, page 65, dated March 3, 1795-County Court House, Abingdon, Va. His estate to his wife and children-James, Andrew, Mary Smith, Francis, George and Mathew. Francis and Elizabeth Summers Kincannon are interred in the Old Cemetery at Glade Spring, Va., along with several others of the family. A new monument was erected in the Old Glade Cemetary in 1961 by Miss Mary Kincannon Stephenson in memory of her Great, Great, Great Grandfather Francis K. who donated the land for burial and worshipping purposes. Ebbing Spring Cemetery is nearby to the Southeast. This is a Presbyterian Community. ("High on A Windy Hill, " written by Catherine S. McConnell, 1968.)"

"She and James did not have any children, in Will Book 3 Page 249 Washington Co., VA bequeather one half his plantation to his wife, Sarah and one half to James Kincannon (son of his brother Andrew) (Statement of James Kincannon in Chancery Court Files, 2837, Wythe Co., VA that Sarah McDonald was a sister of Catherine McDonald.) Their home stood and still stands though now a barn, at the intersection of 754 and 736 (Deed Book 1 page 65and Page 18 the Historical Society of Washington Co., VA Publication March 1991)."

"James was a surveyor for Fincastle Co., VA 1773-1777. He was a Revolutionary soldier at the battle of King's Mountain under Capt. Wm. Campbell. Sarah and James had no descendants. (The Last Free Land)"
