Notes for Rosa Ellen Allen: Rosa appears on the 1881 Census in her grandmother's house in Ch.N. with her mother, Mary Ann, her Aunt Maria and brother William George. All had the surname Allen implying she was illegitimate. No father is listed on her marriage certificate either. Shewas a spinster aged 30 when she married Walter in 1898 in Chipping Norton. He abandoned her and their 2 children around 1900. She appears with 3 children on the 1901 Census living with her aunt. There is a death index for a ROSE ELLEN PARISH aged 35 in Chipping Norton, Jan-Mar 1903, 3a 609, however the certificate turns out to be for an unmarried Rose Parish born in Ch.N. in 1867. She was then recorded, aged 45, with her 2 children on the 1911 Census still living in Chipping Norton. Interestingly her son Walter was now listed as William which was his middle name. Obviously his first name of Walter was out of favour !! There are 2 possible 2nd marriages for Rosa: To Wm T Drake in Islington in Apr-Jun 1913 or to Thomas h Fleming or Wm J Malcher in Fulham in Jul-Sep 1911. This would be just over 10 years since Walter's disappearance - Was that the time period required before you could assume a 'missing person' wasdead and hence allow a legal subsequent marriage ????
