John Martin wrote a will August 5, 1783, will probated October 1783.

In the name of God Amen, I John Martin of the County of Caroline being of sound since and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament. Imprinis: I lend unto my beloved wife all my Estate both real and personal and at her decease to be divided as followeth: Item I lend unto my daughter Mary Gaunt during her life three negros Doll, Cyrus and Andrew with all their future increase and after decease to be equally divided among all her children. Item: I lend unto my daughter Bridget Spindle during her life three negros Sam, Jenny and Ben the son of Jenny with all their future increase and at her decease to be equally divided among all her children. Item: I lend unto my daughter Christian Eubank during her life three negros Casar, Dinah and Winney, Dinah's child with all their future increase and at her decease to be equally among all her children. Item: I give unto Ambrose Blackburn and his assignees in trust for the use and seperate maintainance on my daughter Ann Bowler during her life three negroes Prince, Gilbert and Judy with all their future increase and one forth of my household and kitchen furniture and after her decease to be equally divided among all her children. Item: I give unto my three daughters Mary Gaunt, Bridget Spindle and Christian Eubank the remainder of my household and kitchen furniture to be equally divided among them. Item: I give unto son John four negroes Ben, Sarah, Lucy and Charles with all their future increase. Item: I give unto son Isaac four negroes James, Anthony, Aggy and Judy with their future increase. Item: I give unto son William four negroes George, Seth, Phillis and Tom with all their future increase. Item: I give unto my son Henry's children four negroes Davy, Grace, Phebe and Peter with their future increase to be equally divided among them only reserving to the widow of my son Henry the use of the one third part of the said negroes during her widowhood. Item: I give unto my son Ambrose's children four negroes Frank, Milley, Pheby and Janey the daughter of Milley with their future increase to be equally divided among them only reserving to the widow of my son Ambrose the use of the one third part of the said negroes during her widowhood. Item: I give all the remainder on my estate both real and personal unto my sons John, Isaac and William and my sons Henry and Ambrose's children to them and their heirs forever to be equally divided into five lots and my son Henry's children to have one lot equally divided amongst them and my son Ambrose's children to have one lot equally divided among them reserving to the widows on my sons Henry and Ambrose the use of one third of what is here given their children during their widowhood and lastly I appoint my sons John and Isaac and grand son John Spindle Jr Executors. This Will was proved by the oath of James Upshaw and ordered to be certified on motion of John Spindle one of the Execs therein named who made oath thereto according to law. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof. Bond acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.
Caroline November Court 1783. On motion of Isaac Martin a probate of said Will was granted him he having taken the oath prescribed by Law bond with Security acknowledged and ordered to be Recorded. signed Wm Nelson

In the name of God Amen The twenty fifth
day December in the year of our Lord Christ
1775 - I Ambrose Martin of Halifax County
in North Carolina being sick and weak of
Body but of Perfect mind and memory
thanks be to God therefore calling to mind
the mortality of my Body and knowing that it
is appointed for all men once to die I do
make and Ordain this my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following
that is to say principally and first of
all I give my soul to God who gave it
to me trusting through the Mercies and Merits
of Jesus Christ my blessed to receive full
pardon of all my sins to be commited and
received into eternal bliss and my body
I give to the earth to be buried in a christian
like and decent manner at the discretion of
my Executors here after mentioned and as
is touching my worldly Estate after all my
legal debts and funeral expences are justly
paid I give and dispose of in the fol-
lowing manner and form. Imfrimis I
give and bequeath to my beloved wife
Sarah Martin my whole estate both real
and real and personal for her to use
and enjoy the same at her will and
pleasure during during her widdow hood
and if she should marry my will and
desire is that at the time of her marry-
ing my whole estate be divided amongst
my children equally. Namely Henry, John

beloved wife being with child my desire is
that if it lives to have an equal part of
my Estate with the rest of my children my
will and desire is that when my young-
est child comes of age that my Estate be
divided as afore mentioned and my
beloved wife to her a childs part and
I do appoint my beloved wife Sarah Martin
and my brother Isaac Martin executors
of this my last will and Testament
In Witness hereof I have interchangeably
set my hand and seal this twenty fifth
day of December one thousand seven
hundred and seventy-five.

February Term 1793
In the name of God Amen I Sarah Martin of the
County of Wilkes & State of North Carolina do
make and ordain this to be my last will and Tes
tament in Manner and form as following
To wit
I give to my beloved son Henry Martin fifty acres of
Land beginning on Leonard Sails line & including the
plantation where the ?? Henry now lives I likewise
give to my beloved Daughter Patty Redding fifty
acres of land Beginning at the Waggon Rhode & joining
Benjamin Harrisons & Isaac Martins lines I likewise
give to my Beloved Daughter Ann Martin fifty acres
of land Beginning in Isaac Martins line joining Patty
Reddings and running across the waggon Rhode with
John Reddings line and I likewise give the balance
of my land whereon I now live to my beloved sons Thom
as Martin & John Martin to be equally divided be
tween them. Lastly I Constitute my beloved son
Thos Martin & William Redding & Henry Martin
Executors of this my last will and testament in witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixt my seal
this twenty fifth Day of April 1792
