Descendants of George Martin and Susanna North of Amesbury, Mass. (Updated Dec. 16, 2001)

30. RACHEL5 MARTIN (EPHRAIM4, SAMUEL3, JOHN2, GEORGE1) was born 1760 in Goffestown, N.H., and died 1840 in Bradford, VT. She married SAMUEL DAVIS (Source: #805, Roll #254: Selected Recods Rev. War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Files Davis, Obadenke-Davis, Suny: State of Vt., Prob. Dist. of Lamoille, SAMUEL DAVIS R=48.) July 04, 1781 in Newbury, VT, son of SAMUEL DAVIS and DOROTHY HADLEY.

Notes for R
ACHEL MARTIN:
Rachel Martin married Samuel Davis, b. 1757 in Goffestown, N.H. Their son Samuel claimed on his pension application of 1853 that Rachel was born in 1760, and came over to Bradford with the first families (1768). That Rachel named her daughter Keziah, a name rare in the area, is the clearest indication that her parents are Ephraim and Keziah Martin. The deposition also explains that Rachel's sister Polly (Martin) Horner removed to Canada, which agrees with the history of Stanstead, Quebec concerning the Ephraim Martin family.

Notes for S
AMUEL DAVIS:
The parents of Samuel Davis have not been absolutely determined other than through information given in the family history by David Hoyt and that given in the LDS collection of Family Search submissions. The use of the names Absalom and Lydia for the first 2 children seems to indicate they were close relatives somewhere in earlier families. Since these names do not occur on the Martin side, it has been suggested that they might reflect members of Rachel Martin's mother's family. The marriage record of Ephraim Martin and his wife Keziah has not been located, and Keziah's maiden name remains unknown.
Family tradition and depositions for govt. pensions claim Samuel was born in Goffestown, N.H. in 1757, though the Davis family is not listed as town taxpayers as late as 1762. Other family members moved to Piermont, N.H.
