I have a copy of the letter from Maj Daniel Smith to Col Arthur Cambell that verify the death of William Ferrell #1 who was scalped by Indians on Thompson Creek in his home in New Garden, Russell Co Virginia. Williams family had been moved to the fort some time before the incident. (Poss, Glade Hollow fort. William Ferrel was a soldier in Fincastle Co Virginia in 1774, I have copy of the payroll register of Capt Daniel Smith's Company where William was paid $4.11 for 61 days and the register of lieutenant William Edmundson's Detachment where William was paid $1.70 for 18 days. There is also a map showing where Thompson's Creek is in Virginia which is by Big A Mountain. Thompson Creek empties in Clinch River.
There is also a newspaper article for the Virginia Gazette,Williamsburg Va, dated July 17, 1752 which states William Ferrell living in fredericksburg may have been an Irish Convict Servant. He ran away from the Subfcriber. His age is about right. He was thought to have gone towards Mobjack Bay or York River, in a schooner belong to Capt Garret, A reward was offered by Anthony Strotbar.
