Alfred DeWitt Rice (son of Albert Rice and Eliza Mack) was born August 28, 1900 in Cross Village, MI, and died May 20, 1985 in Alamo, MI.He married (1) Ethel May Fox on April 17, 1922 in Allegan, MI., daughter of Gilbert William Fox and Frances Bridget Clawson.He married (2) Evelyn May Shelley on August 28, 1948.

" Rice, Mr. Alfred D. 8468 N. 6th, Kalamazoo
Passed away Monday, May 20, 1985 in Kalamazoo. Mr. Rice was born August 28, 1900 in Cross Village, and had owned and operated the Eastside Grocery Store in Plainwell from 1935 to 1940, Rice's Meat Market in Otsego from 1941 to 1942, Rice's Sales & Service Garage and (Minneapolis Moline Farm Implement) in Alamo from 1946 to 1968, when he retired. He farmed for several years after his retirement and opened Rice's Saw Service in 1978. He was also the first building inspector in Alamo Township. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; 4 daughters and 2 sons and their spouses, Betty and Jack Martin of Plainwell, Margaret and Russell Filkins of Otsego, Burtie and James Deneau of Kalamazoo, Alfred J. and Betty Rice of Shelbyville, James and Janice Rice of Otsego, Nancy and Ron Feniger of Columbus, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers includng a twin borhter, Rev. Allen Rice, also Adrian rice, Hank Rice and Herman Slater, a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Pauline) Corradini, a great-grandson Doug Corradini. Friends may call beginning 7 p.m. this evening at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego, where services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., The Rev. Stephen W. Tucker officiating. Interment in Alamo Center Cmemtery. Friends desiring may make memorial contributions to the Society of the Blind and Handicapped."
