Notes for Juan Alejandro Rivera: Juan Alejandro Rivera was born on January 25, 1865 in Cuchara, Huerfano County, Colorado to Fernando Rivera and Maria Marquez. He married Maria "Marillita" Natividad Mestas. Maria Mestas was born in Weston, CO about 1868. [Cuchara is located about halfway between La Veta and Weston on Colorado highway 12, called the Highway of Legends. Take highway 160 west from Walsenburg to highway 12.] Juan Alejandro and Maria Natividad had a ranch house and store room made of stone in Corrumpa. During their final years, Carmelita Rivera Archuleta Marquez, who had been raised by Juan Alejandro and Maria, brought her grandparents to live with her family on the Marquez ranch, also in Corrumpa. At the that time Corrumpa had a post office, a store, and a one-room school house. Today, all that remains of the Corrumpa community are two cemeteries and several housing foundations made of sandstone.
