Richard Martin (b. Abt. 1754, d. October 18, 1799)
Notes for Richard Martin:
Richard , along with his his uncle Thomas Martin, came to the Bristol, Maine area sometime before 1778, when he married Sarah Vickery Le Balester. She may have been a widow since divorce was not common in thatt era. She was born in Marblehead to one of the prominent families of the time. The Vickery's and Martin's owned fshing sloops for several generations operating out of Marblehead.
Hewas in St. George in 1785 and bought Mosquito Island according to History of St. George, He waswas Listed in the 1790 census of Cushing, from which St. George separated in 1803, with 3 boys under 16 and 4 females.
listed as owner of two ships in 1830 in St. George.
Mr. Nathan Bowers, Richard's brothers father in law has the following enrty in his journal for April 12 1786. "Let Richard Martin my lot by the new meeting house for 3 cord wood and 8 bushls protaters".
This could be a different Richard as it appears that Richard, Stephen's father, may have beenin Maine at that time. He and Sarah must have returned to Marblehead for a timesince his sons Thomas and Stephen are shown in the Marblehead records as having been Christened there.
