Susan F. Ridley







Susan F. Ridley was born April 15, 1844 in South Carolina. She was the first child of Armifilia "Millie" Wilson (see Stephen C. Elias Hamilton article). Susan's father was Boney Ridley. Susan Ridley died March 30, 1930 at age 75 years 11 months and 15 days in Hiawassee Township, Clay County NC from carcinoma of the liver. Susan Ridley married William Martin Lowe who was born December 26, 1850 in NC and was the son of Joseph Joshua Lowe and Lucinda Smith Lowe. Lucinda Smith Lowe was born on December 24 in NC and died October 29, 1922 in Clay County NC and is buried at Philadelphia Cemetery.

Joseph Joshua Lowe and Lucinda Smith Lowe had at least ten children; Abraham Low (born 1846 in NC), John Lowe (born 1848 in NC and married Elizabeth unknown), William Martin Lowe (born 1850 and married Susan Ridley - see later paragraphs), Sarah Lowe (born 1853 in NC and married Mr. Parks), Manerva Lowe ( born 1856 and remained single and died 1917 and is buried at Jackson Line Cemetery, Jackson Co., NC), George Lowe (born 1858 in NC and married Harriet - see later paragraphs), James Lowe (born 1860 in NC), Elijah Lowe (born 1862 in NC and married Laura - see later paragraphs), Mary Lowe (born 1866 in NC and married Mr. Cochran), and Lula Rueanne Lowe (born 1870 and married Mr. Wilhide).

Susan Ridley Lowe and William Martin Lowe were married on August 27, 1870. In Sue Lowe's Bible, the marriage is recorded as follows "W. M. Lowe and Sue Ridley were united in Holy Matrimony at the home of J. R. Massingale on the 27th day of August, 1870, in presence of W. A. Hooper and D. H. Mathis. Signed Rev. B. N. Queen". Susan and William Martin Lowe had ten children; Rebecca Arlesia Lowe (who married James Robert Vance Hamilton - see article on Rev. James Robert Vance "Bud" Hamilton), W.R. Lowe ( who was born and died March 27, 1873 in NC), Daniel Harlen Lowe (who was born March 20, 1876 in NC and died October 24, 1936 and married Delia Ann Taylor -- see later paragraph), John L. Lowe (who was born October 27, 1878 in Jackson County NC and died August 31, 1920 and married Billie C. Martin in 1904 and had daughter Hazel Lowe), Alice L. Lowe (who was born October 12, 1880 in NC and married Hyde Ledford), Wesley Elijah Lowe ( who was born September 6, 1882 in NC and died December 20, 1964 and married Annie Ethel Ledford), James Elias Lowe (who was born October 9, 1885 in NC and died May 6, 1946 and married Nova Edwards born 1898 and had children Ruth Lowe and Dale Lowe),Lovenia E. Lowe (who was born March 19, 1889 and married Bryson Revester Reese), Baxter Cleveland Low (who was born June 7 in NC and died August 6, 1974 and married Eva J. Burrell) and Bertha R. Lowe (who was born October 26, 1892 in Swain County NC and died November 3, 1974 and married Charlie Burrell and Ciscoe Kimsey).

Daniel Harlen Lowe (1876) and Delia Ann Taylor (born October 20, 1885 and died April 20, 1956 in Tellico Plains TN and buried at Unico Cemetery in Monroe County TN) had fourteen children; Alice Talma Lowe ( born July 24, 1904 and married Mr. Sanders), Edith Louise Lowe (born July 28, 1905 and married Mr. Thomas), William Ralph Lowe (born June 29, 1906), Paul Wesley Lowe (born January 11, 1908), Ellen Elizabeth Lowe (born May 13, 1909), Walter Allen Lowe (born March 4, 1911 and died November 29, 1939), Virgil Edwin Lowe (born November 25, 1913), Clifford Wade Lowe (born March 6, 1915 and had son Dan Lowe), Nellie Marie Lowe (born December 11, 1916 and married first Albert Pellom anc had four children; Louise Miller who went to GA, John Pellom who went to IN, Ralph Pellom who went to IN, and JoAnn Pellom Tate who stayed in TN. Marie married second Thomas Lynn), Thedore Frank Lowe (born October 18, 1918 and went to Pennsylvania), Anice Janette Lowe (born January 5, 1922 and lived in Florida), Talma Agnes Lowe (born September 21, 1923and went to Maryland), John Elden Lowe (born September 11, 1925), and Henry Clint Lowe (born February 6, 1928 who moved to Madisonville TN).

George Lowe (born 1858), son of Joseph Joshua Lowe and Lucinda Smith Lowe, married Harriet unknown who was born August of 1860 and they had at least seven children; Andrew H. Lowe (born 1882), Lucy R. Lowe (born 1884), James G. Lowe (born 1887), George F. Lowe (born 1890), Mary E. Lowe (born 1893), Rufus C. Lowe (born 1895), and Annie L. Lowe (born 1899).

Elijah Lowe (born 1862) and Laura unknown (born 1862) had at least six children; William J. Lowe (born 1887), George A. Lowe (born 1890), James F. Lowe (born 1891), Steve Lowe (born 1893), Allen L. Lowe (born 1895), and Elijah L. Lowe (born 1897).
