Richard J. Maresh, Holmen WI: Ancestry and Family

My name is Rich Maresh and I live in Holmen, Wisconsin, just north of La Crosse and a couple miles from the Mississippi River. I've been working on family genealogy since about 1977 and have gradually gathered considerable information, both backward and forward in time, on my basic branches:

(1) Paternal Grandfather: Fred Raymond MARESH, born 18 June 1902, near Kimball (Brule) SD. These are my Czech lines: Mares/Maresh, Schoenberger, Vopalensky - from Bohemia, immigrated between 1864 and 1875, settled first in Grant County, Wisconsin, then in Brule County, South Dakota about 1883.

(2) Paternal Grandmother: Celia Bertha ERDMAN, born 10 May 1899, near Armour (Douglas) SD. These are some of my German branches: Erdman, Klatt, Stuempges, Rosenmeier - from eastern Germany (Erdman) and Westphalia in the Rhine country (Stuempges), immigrated between 1848 and 1872, settled near Buffalo NY and then Douglas County SD (Erdman) and in Wisconsin, Iowa, and SD (Stuempges).

(3) Maternal Grandfather: Herbert Grover BURRILL, born 15 June 1892, Hawley (Clay) MN. These are my English and Scottish lines: Burrill/Burrell, McDonald, Bennett, Gibson, and many other names - the Burrills and Bennetts go back to early New England, and the McDonalds immigrated from Scotland into Ontario CAN in 1820. They ended up in Hawley, Minnesota. Lots of information on this family!

(4) Maternal Grandmother: Matilda Josephine SCHLENER, born 4 December 1897, near Mantador (Richland) ND. These are my other German and Austrian lines: Schlener, Wilm, Becker, Holzer - the Schleners settled in Wisconsin in about 1848 and moved to Stearns County MN by 1865, and the Wilms settled in Lake County IN in 1852 and moved to Douglas County MN by 1867.
