Descendants of Martin (Eitel) Idle

Generation No. 1

1. MARTIN (EITEL)1 IDLE was born in Germany?. He married MARY BROOKS.

Notes for MARTIN (EITEL) IDLE:
Family legend passed on by Beatrice "Trix" Shearer Cox, sister of Francis M. Shearer, indicates that Martin Eitel came from Germany as a Hessian Soldier. This 1967 letter is now in the possession of descendant Terry Dearborn Jr.

"Martin Idle came from Germany during the Revolutionary War as a Hessian soldier, sold to England to fight against the Colonies. But it seems that a good man couild not be held a slave in a bad service. Martin Idle started his own thinking machine soon after he landed on this continent. He soon found out he had been sold to fight for the wrong against the right. Flr this he was not to be blamed. But he wuld have shared in the blame if he had continued on that side. Martin Idle was too conscious for that. Just as soon as he saw that the Colonists were in the right, he deserted the English army and joined the Colonists and fought with them for freedom against oppression until victory was won and the foundation of the "Great Republic", sanely and securely laid"
