IDLE GOSSIP and some other branches of my tree.......

Updated October 7, 2001

This site is primarily for my research (and some other nice folks who have contributed!) of the lines of Martin IDLE (also spelled Eitel) and his descendants. Since most of what we have to date is not totally proven, I consider it all "IDLE GOSSIP"!

I have not worked on the IDLE family for quite sometime so this is pretty stale info. I hope to get back to working on them soon.

I also have info on my Dutch Titus line; the Idle and Titus lines connected when Julia Gideon, daughter of Joseph Gideon and Mary Jane Idle, married Robert Harvey Titus. Robert and Julia were my great grandparents. The report here was so old I have deleted it, but you can find a more updated version at

TITUS-DUTCH-L@rootsweb.com is a mailing list I sponsor for researchers of the family of Titus Syrach DeVries, who changed the family surname to TITUS in the 1650's.

Despite claims from some groups that the English TITUS line were the TITUS line found first on Long Island NY, descendants of Titus Syrach DeVries with the TITUS surname and of Dutch heritage were also in the area in the same time period. Because the English line was larger in scope majority and may have been there ahead of ours by a few years, the Dutch Titus ancestors often get lost in the research process.

As a result we've been gathering information on the mailing list and the TITUS report at my other location is a general outline of who's in the database so far. Once the data entry is complete, a more detailed report will be placed online. However, if you find your TITUS on this listing, you may want to join our mailing list.
