I have established this site to share genealogical data that I have spent twenty plus years collecting on the following families. This is just a sampling of surnames that I am researching - but hopefully uncommon enough that you will find my site and perhaps a link.

My wife's grandfather was from Richmond, VA and we are researching the following families in Central Virginia:

COOMBER/COMBER of Brentford, Middlesex and Wrotham, Kent, England
My COOMBER ancestors originated in Wrotham Parish, Kent and I follow a family line that moved to Brentford, Middlesex and finally, Bristol, before leaving for Ontario, Canada in 1906.

HORNER/HANAUER of Somerset Co., PA and Markham Twp., York Co. ON
Daniel HORNER and his wife, Anna Maria KIMMEL, came to Ontario in 1805 with many other Pennsylvania German settlers from Somerset County. They raised their family at Headford in Markham Township, York Co., Ontario.

LaROSE/LaRUSH of Montreal and Etobicoke Twp., York Co. ON
Alexandre LaRose was a native of Montreal, Quebec who came to Ontario in 1812 while fighting with the Essex Militia. His wife, Susannah, was of Pennsylvania German ancestry, and after his early death, she married Pierre LaROCHE (Peter LaRUSH), also from Montreal. The LaRose and LaRush families settled in Etobicoke Township, York Co., Ontario. Go to the file "Susannah" below to see her descendants.

LYONS/MAGUIRE of Strabane, Tyrone Co., Ireland and Georgina Twp., York Co., ON
John LYONS commutted his pension from the Chelsea Hospital in London for passage to Canada in 1831. He settled in the Township of Georgina, York Co., Ontario. Some of his children remained in York County, others went to Alabama, Michigan and Kentucky.

SIZE/SEITZ or VAN SIZE of Kingston, ON and Markham Twp., York Co. ON.
John SIZE and wife, Elizabeth VAN DER HEYDEN came from Schenectady NY to Ontario in 1800. They were early settlers in Unionville, Markham Twp. Their descendants have moved all over Canada and the US.

    Jane VANCE was the wife of John JOSE of Cornwall and later Toronto. She was the daughter of John VANCE and born on 24 December 1824 in Scotland, probably Paisley or area. She came to Canada with her father, step-mother, Mary GOW, and sister Agnes. They first lived in Quebec City and by 1842 had moved to Toronto, Ontario.

    The attached file is a partial listing of Death Registrations taken from the CRO indexes for the surname COOMBER/COMBER. It roughly covers the years 1837, 1865 through to 1890.
  • Markham Circuit Primitive Methodist Baptisms (266 KB)
    This is a transcription of the baptisms performed by the ministers of the Markham Circuit Primitive Methodist church. The baptisms begin in 1843 through to 1866 and include infants, entire families and adults. The earliest birth recorded is 1825. The circuit preachers baptised persons throughout York County, Ontario, with the odd entry further afield - Pickering, Scott, Etobicoke townships - for example. Ideally, the information includes the child's name, birth and baptism dates, parents' names, abode, and father's occupation. I originally had this transcription printed in the Ontario Genealogical Society's "FAMILIES", Vol. 28, No. 2, May 1989. This present transcription includes about 869 entries and is sorted by surname.
  • Marriage Registrations - COOMBER (13 KB)
    Another ongoing project to index the COOMBER marriage registrations found in the St. Catherine's Marriage Registrations. The index is complete for the following years - 1866, 1867, 1868, 1887, 1888, 1889,1890 and 1891 only. Again, use the registration numbers to obtain an actual marriage certificate.

    I think Caroline's parents were Hezekiah MANLEY and Susan BASS of Fluvanna County, VA, but I need proof!
