Surname: Ackerson, Akerson

There is a court affidavit file 1 July 1893 in which John Ackerson states that he is the son of Peter Ackerson whose naturalization papers accompany his final proof for his homestead (since he was under 21 years of age when his father was naturalized) and that the original spelling of his sir name [RJC--should be surname] was 'Akerson' and that in order to make his name spell as it was pronounced in English, his father added the letter 'c' and thereafter spelled the name 'Ackerson'.

Indeed there in the file is a copy of the naturalization papers of Petter Ackerson, a native of the Kingdom of Sweden, filed 13 October 1876, in the Circuit Court of Barry County, Missouri, in which he renounces all allegiance and fidelity to Oscar II, King of Sweden. Witnesses are Andrew Nord (spelling?) and Joseph Anderson.
