Barbara Matul's Family History

Welcome to my family!
March, 2012 Update
Well, another few years! What have I been up to since the last update? Lots!
As you may notice, I do have not updated my family tree online. There are a couple of reasons: One, I often have unverified data in my tree that I'm working on verifying. Two, people just take my data with no interaction with me. I'm happy to share....just ask! :) Three is a biggie, but is similar to the last one: People take bad data and spread it without verification. I have seen this TONS with our Hams family!
Since my last post I have been to Salt Lake City, and found tons of information on our family in England! That is an awesome resource! From that I have proof that the Marriage which is wildly posted online between John Hams and Susanna Bannister is not my family...although I really wish it was, as I was able to find a lot of information about the Bannister family. I proved that this wasn't our family via the church records and comparing those with the census information. That John and Susanna had a child, Mary Ann, and they still lived in England in 1841, after our family was established in the USA. I also have a death certificate of one of the Ham's children which gives her mother's maiden name....and it isn't Bannister.
We also went to New York to see the first land that our John Hams owned when he came to America. That was a thrill! But...it is really hard to do any genealogy in New York! Not one of the more fun trips as far as data, that's for sure.
I'm not sure where the next trip will be....although I put an idea to my aunt about going to North Dakota for our Kirkeby family.

August, 2009 Update
I'm not certain how I could have written that last update...and not provided another one after that. I can't believe that it has been almost two years!
Here's the funny update....on the way home from that trip to Indiana, I wanted to swing by Waukesha, Wisconsin. I found a census record that included "Watches" in that county. Mom was so tired that I had suggested we just keep going home, but she insisted that she was ok to make this stop. Lo and Behold, we found naturalization records for John & Henry Hams, as well as John Watches! John Hams' record said that he filed his original papers in Oneida County, New York.
So, where are we today? I have found the ship manifest for Hams and Watches coming to America. So, I tie John Hams with four of his children with that document. I also have John's intent papers from NY. Using the Watches and Hams family information, I was able to get records from Saltwood and Hythe, England. If you are looking at this family, I strongly urge you to use familysearch.org and your local FHL...you will love the information you find! I have found the baptism of several other siblings (and some death), as well as that of Susanna Bannister, her parents and siblings. I have not yet found John's baptism or birth record. Still looking! At least I now know where in England. Mom and I are still planning on going over there...perhaps next spring?

October, 2007 Update
As I type this, I'm in a motel room with my mother, on yet another genealogy trip. Over time, I believe my mother has surpassed me in genealogy passion! I need to have more vacation time from work so that I can keep up with her! This trip we are in Indiana checking up on our Stockman, Pippenger and Keck families. We have a 3rd cousin here that we are partners in crime with, Dorothy Pippenger. We are actually related to her and to her deceased husband (she was a Stockman). We have visited a few cemeteries, and will be doing more reasearch in Elkhart County, as well as Marshall County.
Next spring we are planning on going to England. Perhaps we are ready for this trip. We have found the ship's record that brings our Hams family from England, and believe that they came from Hythe. This winter will be spent trying to find out as m
