Find Family

I am researching the Mathers family and the Frame family who are my ancestors. The search started with my father, Myron Ellsworth Mathers, who was born in McAuley, Manitoba in 1920. Dad was one of nine children born to Asa Mathers and Torborg Odne. Asa was born in Ontario and Torborg in Norway. Asa's parents were Alonzo Mathers and Christie McDonald. After a lot of searching and much help, I have found Alonzo's family! His father was Asa Mather and his mother Elizabeth Bachman - both born in Haldimand County, Rainham Township, Ontario. Christie McDonald claimed to have been born in Huron County, daughter of Donald McDonald, but so far I cannot find any trace of the family.
I am also researching my mother's family--the Frames. My mother was Doris Evelyn Mather(nee Frame), born in The Pas, Manitoba in 1921. Mom was one of six children born to Thompson Frame and Christina Torrie. Tom was born in Treherne, Manitoba and Christina was born on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Research has been easier for this family, thanks to the help of some long-lost relatives I discovered on the Internet. We have managed to go back to the year 1210 with some relatives in Scotland and hope to learn more as time goes by.

I have learned a lot about this family and their roots since I first posted this information to this site. I want to update it now to give you a bit of a prelude to the information I hope to put into a book format, with documents and pictures. However, I wanted you all to be able to have a look at what we know to date.

Please feel free to contact me with any information you might care to add to this family history. I would love to hear your memories, see your old photos and hear about your children and grandchildren. Please email me at cmathers4@shaw.ca if you wish to share information.

Lines To Granny

Where did you come from, Granny dear?

How did you get from there to here?

Tell me, what was your maiden name?

Has it always been spelled the same?

Where was your birth place, county and state?

When were you born? Please give me the date.

(NO, NO, Granny, never you fear!

I'll leave your birthday but not the year.

We'll leave that blank on the family tree.

I promise your secret won't go beyond me!)

Who was your father? Do you have proof?

What other children lived under his roof?

And what of your mother? Who was she?

What do you know of her pedigree?

When were they married? Can it be proved?

That they were not cousins once removed?

I have a few more questions to ask you still:

Did your father own land? Did he leave a will?

Your vital records, where are they?

What do original sources say?

We must have documents, one or two,

To prove, Granny dear, that you are you!!

Grandpa's Turn....

I started out calmly tracing my tree,

to find if I could, the making of me,

and all that I had was a great grandfather's name,

not knowing his wife or from whence he came.

I chased him across a long line of states

and came up with pages and pages of dates.

When all put together, it made me forlorn,

I proved that poor grandpa had never been born.

One day I was sure the truth I had found.

Determined to turn this whole thing upside down.

I looked up the record of one uncle John,

but then found the old man was younger than his son.

Then when my hopes were fast growing dim,

I came across records that must have been him.

The facts I collected made me quite sad.

Dear old grandfather was never a dad.

I think maybe someone is pulling my leg.

I'm not at all sure I wasn't hatched from an egg.

After hundreds of dollars I've spent on my tree,

I can't help wonder if I'm really me.
