Obediah Matthews (b. abt 1768), a veteran of the Amercian Revolution, served in the North Carolina Line and received land in Greene County, Tn as payment. He married Lydia Richardson (b. abt 1768 dau of William Richardson of Kings Salt Works, Va) on 5 April of 1786. Obediah had siblings named Joel, James, Samuel and Elizabeth. Obediah's father may have been "Preston" and his mother was a "Ransbird" from England. Obediah and Lydia had at least one son, Robert (aka Robert Mathis) b. 19Feb 1786 (I know!) in Greene County, Tn. Robert was veteran of the War of 1812, serving in "Bunch's" Regiment of the East Tennessee Militia in 1814. Robert married Leah Dobbins (b. 1782) abt 1809 in Sevier County, Tn. I am most interested in going beyond Obediah to his ancestors, and learning more about his siblings along the way. It is also unusual in those days for a family to have only one child, and I suspect that Robert may have had siblings, and I continue to pursue that line. Other family names are ALLEN, BAXTER, DENNIS, DOBBINS, GILES, HUFF, JAMES, SCHULTS[Z] (Shults), SMELCER (Schmeltzer), and WILLIAMS to name a few. |
