The Mattoon Family Home Page

This is the home of the Mattoon family genealogy. I have been researching the name of Mattoon from the Ohio area for the past 30 years and have many generations to add to this page.

I am currently working on the surnames of Mattoon and Langridge. If you would like to exchange info on these families please drop me a note, I will be happy to share any information that I have.

Ansel Mattoon was our first footprint in Ohio, so that is where I have started working from.

Ansel Mattoon (1794-188?)was born in Vershire, VT. in 1794 and moved to Columbus OH abt. 1821 and in abt.1860 moved to Iowa. He died in abt. 1883 after applying for a grant based on his son, James Mattoon's Civil War pension. A letter dated 1887, stated that he died about a couple years prior. I believe he is buried in Wapello county IA.
