Find Family

Mattingly/Siegrist, Saup/Ryan, and Mohr/Durnen Home Page

Updated November 3, 2007

I am researching both the family of Jack D. Mattingly and that of Sheila K. Mohr, my wife.

For my family, I'm focusing on the Christopher J. Mattingly, Michael Siegrist, Anthony Saup (Anton Sop), and Christopher C. Ryan family trees. They lived in and around Zanesville, Ohio starting in the 1850's. Currently I have 12 generations of the Mattingly family (back to early 1600's in England), 6 generations of the Siegrist family (back to early 1800's in Alsace-Loraine), 7 generations of the Saup family (back to late 1700's in Alsace-Loraine), and 6 generations of the Ryan family (back to early 1800's in Ireland).

For my wife's family, I'm focusing on the John Mohr and Edward P. Durnen family trees. John Mohr came to the United States from Germany in 1871 and settled in central Washington around 1881. Edward Patrick Durnen, son of Thomas and Margaret Durnen, came from Wisconsin up the Missouri River to Montanta in 1873. Albert D. Mohr (son of John Mohr and Louisa M. Ebel) married Lucille M. Durnen (grandaughter of Edward P. Durnen and Anna Moran, daughter of Thomas F. Durnen and Harriet F. May) on September 25, 1936 - they are my wife's parents. Currently I have 6 generations of the Durnen family (back to 1824 in Ireland) and 5 generations of the Mohr family (back to mid 1800's in Germany).

The first Mattingly's came from England to America about 1664 and lived in St. Mary's County, Maryland. This family contained Thomas, the father, his wife Elizabeth, and their children: two sons, Thomas and Cezar, and two daughters, Judith (who is listed as Judith Turner) and Elizabeth. Over the next two centuries the Mattingly's migrated west to Kentucky, western Maryland, Ohio, etc. In the early 1850's (seven generations later), Christopher Mattingly (born 1829) moved to Perry County, Ohio from Allegany County in western Maryland. About 1860 he moved into Muskingum Township, Muskingum County, Ohio (north of Zanesville) and joined the other Mattingly families that had moved there from Maryland in a region called "Mattingly Settlement.". He married Theresa Honora Durbin of Knox County, Ohio during 1855 in Zanesville, Ohio. Christopher and Theresa's children included Dennis, Ida, Bernard, Father Jerome, James, Mary Jane, and Francis. Dennis Mattingly married Helena Siegrist (daughter of Michael Siegrist and Elizabeth Stine) - they are my grandparnts on my father's side of the family.

Anthony Saup (Anton Sop) born in France/Germany during 1799 came to the US during his teens and married Elizabetha Schmitt (born in ALS, Oberlauterbach, Alsace, France during 1813) in Buffalo, NY during 1834. Anthony and Elizabetha's children included Anthony, Elizabeth, Joh. Peter, Mary, Kathryn, Robert Michael, Phillip, and Charles. The family moved to Zanesville in the 1850's. Anthony Saup married Margaret Catharina Weber on October 02, 1860 in St. Nicholas Church, Zanesville, Ohio and their children included Dora, Cecelia, and Charles. Charles Saup married Margaret C Ryan (daughter of Christopher C. Ryan and Amelia Doratha Scheffler) - they are my grandparents on my mother's side of the family.

Some related surnames for my family are Burgess, Dames, Devins, Durbin, Emmert, Hammond, Maddox, McGovern, McLoughlin, Ryan, Scheffler, Siegrist, Stine, and Weber. Related surnames for my wife's family are Bettys, Bruce, Cooper, DeTour, Haller, LaBart, Langdon, Loncon, May, Moran, Mulligan, and Rassat.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd also be willing to share the information I have.
