"Great Falls, April 8 - (AP) - Edward P
Durnen, 82 of Lewistown, who came up the Missouri by boat to Fort Benton in 1873,
died in Great Falls today after a brief illness.
The body will be sent to Lewistown tomorrow
to be buried beside that of his wife.
Durnen was born in Wisconsin. After coming
to Montana he worked for 24 months in Broadwater county.
He later engaged in the freighting business.
He took a contract for grading on the Northern Pacific line into Helena and
also on the Butte branch. He lived at Winaton 11 years, where he operated a
hotel and also a livery. For eight years he was a commissioner of Broadwater
county.
Durnen upon going to Fergus county settled
at the mining camp of Kendall, where he lived for 10 years and operated a hotel.
During this time he served six years as county auditor. He married Ann Moran in
1976 at Spokane House, near Helena.
Durnen is survived by eight children, Thomas
of Wenatchee, Wash., William and Edward of Cody, Wyo., Cleve of Basin, Mrs. T. H.
Detour of Basin, Mrs. H. E. Johnson of Sidney, Mrs. Rose Labart of Lewistown
and Mrs. M. J. Tierney of Sunburst."

Margaret High passed away peacefully on October 20, 2003. She was born to
Harriet and Thomas Durnen in Winifred, Montana, on October 23, 1916. Lorraine
married Donald M. High on October 10, 1938, and they had just celebrated their 65th
wedding anniversary. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic
Church and had lived in Moses Lake since 1953.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband,
Donald; one sister, Billie Mohr of Bothell, WA; nieces Sheila Mattingly of
Bothell, WA; Gail Rassat of Seattle, WA; Lorraine Bagwell of Seattle, WA; and
Billie Kaye Ulrickson of Seattle, WA; nephews Michael Durnen of Spokane, WA,
and Wayne Durnen of Phoenix, AZ; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great
nieces and nephews as well. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
She loved her family and her friends and was always there to lend a hand.
At her request, there will be no services. A
Memorial Mass will be said at a later date at Our Lady of Fatima Church in
Moses Lake.
Memorials may be made in her name to the
Moses Lake Community Center Food Bank."
