Francis Marion5 Sharp (John Woolverton4, Isaac3, Isaac2, William (Hof)1) was born January 26, 1839 in Millsboro, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and died December 3, 1920 in Sparta, Missouri. He married Margaret Rose Beatty March 31, 1864 in Centerville, Iowa, daughter of James Beatty and Euserbe. She was born September 19, 1838 in Magnolia, Marshall County, Illinois, and died January 13, 1934 in Elkhead, Missouri.

F.M. Sharp fought during the Civil War (Union) at Shiloh, Vicksburg, wounded at Kenesaw Gap, Georgia      went to the sea with General Sherman.

Enlised in Co. D under Capt. Madison M. Walden of the 6 Regiment Infantry June 25, 1860 Burlington, Iowa.

4th Sergeant March 1, 1863
re-enlised as a veteran January 1, 1864

Wounded June 27, 1864 at Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia. Mustered out July 21, 1865.

F.M. incured several injuries during his service. The most serve was a "bursting shell" to the face, knocking him down and disabling him. He suffered paralysis on the left with with partical deafness of the left ear, resulting in the nerves and muscles pershing.

F.M. and Margaret Sharp homesteaded land south of Moravia, Iowa. Every discharged union solider was awarded fort acres of land after the war. They later purchased the adjoining 160 acres. The family resided near Moravia, Iowa thirty-six years before moving east of Elkhead, Missouri near Lawrence Sharp (brother) for seventeen years preceeding F.M.'s death. F.M. died at Sparta, Chistian County, Missouri and was buried at I.O.O.F. Cemetery A.F. & A.M. on December 3, 1920 at Sparta, Missouri.

F.M. was 5 ft. 1 1/2 inches all with grey eyes and dark hair.
