The house that Jim and Hilda lived in off of Old Plank Road was not originally there. My father told me that the house use to be located somewhere near the intersection of Roosevelt Blvd and Route 8. During the depression he obtained the house and moved it, brick by brick and board by board. My Mother told be that for days on end she would go out to the brick pile and clean off the old mortar from the bricks. The basement floor seemed to have different variations in the concrete so I asked my parents why this was. My Father told me that during the depression they would save up enough money and then go out and buy a few bags on cement and pour what they could. I think my parents, if born earlier, would have made good pioneers.
