This research is started with the express desire to capture the essence of a young girl, my mother, Gaetana Schillaci. She left Cerami, Sicily on or about November 1, 1913 at 15 years of age. The immigration records show she arrived on Ellis Island with her mother, Carmella Campione Schillaci, age 53, la Nanna.
My nanna's husband, Grandpa Sebastiano Schillaci, was 73 years old at the time. I know hadn't died, and I have some evidence that he was in Argentina at the time. I want to tell their story.
