* "Down Green Gate Road"*

Updated December 31, 2004

A note to my family...

When I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade, we read from a book called "Through The Green Gate" by Mabel O'Donnell and published by Harper & Row Publishers.

The book begins:

"Someday you may go to Friendly Village. Of course, when you get there, you will want to see all your old friends, Alice and Jerry, Bobby and Billy, and Paddy and all his pets. You will want to call on Mr. Carl and say "Hello" to Mr. Andrews in his fruit store on River Street.

Maybe Cobbler Jim will let you sit on the end of his workbench and talk to his old black cat while he mends your shoes. But whatever you do, be sure to take a walk down Green Gate Road to see Miss Lizzie. You don't want to go home without seeing Miss Lizzie. Green Gate road runs right by the houses of Alice and Jerry and Mr. Carl, and out to the edge of the village. Then all at once it stops.

Green Gate Road has to stop because right there at the end of the road is a little stone house with two fat, red chimneys. Around the house is a garden where gay-colored flowers grow in the summertime. Around the garden is a wall, and in the wall is a green gate. It is just the kind of gate that makes you want to look through the cracks to see what is happening on the other side."

I still have a copy of that book. Even now, I sometimes take it down and read it cover to cover. The stories in it help me to remember my childhood. And, they "stir up" the thoughts and feelings that I had back then. And I smile. It is my hope that you will enjoy this website about our family and, through reading, your gentle emotions will also be stirred.

This webpage is a work "in progress". As I build, I sometimes leave messes in places where they shouldn't be. When I have time, I plan to go back later and clean them up. Please bear with me on this.

I'm trying to provide you with information about our family that is 100% accurate. So, as you read, if you discover anything that isn't correct, please let me know so that I can make the necessary changes. And, if you have information available that I don't have, then please tell me so that I can add it.

Or, if you would like to have photos of your family available on the webpage, then email them to me and be sure to tell me the names of the people who are in the photos that you are sending. It's best to send photos that are no larger than about 70kb. However, send what you have and I will adjust them to fit. For now, I am using whatever photos I happen to have on hand. And truthfully, some of them aren't very good. So, for an improvement, send me photos that you like and I will use them instead.

If you have a "story" about someone in the family that you would like to share, email it to me (or call me on the telephone) and I will add it to the webpage in the appropriate place.

Most of the information concerning living people is not available for reading. That way, our private lives remain our own. However, the details of life and death concerning those who have already died are made available to all. Even so, if there is something on the webpage that you feel is offensive, or that you don't want the whole world to know about, then please let me know and I will consider removing it.

Our time upon this earth is not very long. And it seems that the longer we live, the more we realize just how short our time really is. I felt that the time was right in my own life to look into these matters regarding our ancestry. And, I wanted to share with you what I've discovered about our family. I hope that you enjoy reading about our relatives as much as I have.
