Welcome to the Luffman Family Home Page! This page will outline some of the data my mother, Bonnie Luffman Fuller, and I have found over a period of several years and at least 5+ states, countless courthouses, libraries, and cemetaries!
The surname Luffman is not a common one. The family is quite small, genealogically-speaking. We always thought the name sounded german, yet all of the data we've been able to link together is comprised of very english-sounding names.

All we know at this point is that a William Luffman arrived in Anne Arundel County, MD in 1658 from Bristol, England. There were two more Luffman men that later arrived in same place from Bristol. Whether they were father/sons or all brothers...we don't know at this point.

You can find an occasional Luffman record in both Anne Arundel Co., MD and in VA during the late 1600's. By approx. 1702, there was a Luffman in Currituck Co., NC.

The Luffman families lived in both Currituck and Pasquotank Counties of North Carolina for all of the 1700's. By about 1805, most of them had died. In 1798 a William Luffman Senior and Junior had both passed away. Wm Jr. left two small sons, John and Miles. Wm Jr.'s will also stated that his wife was pregnant when he wrote his will. There was great speculation for many years about the identity of this "unborn child".

This spring my mother found the "orphan docket papers" for these children. We were digging thru mountains of microfilm, and she found the record which leaves "the three orphans of William Luffman Jr." to and Owen Williams. The three children are listed as John, Miles, and William.

In addition to a small family of Luffmans in NY at this time (probably descendants from the Rev. War soldier John Luffman), there were only three Luffman males alive. Miles and his two brothers headed west sometime about 1813.

John married and lived for many years in Surry Co., NC before settling down and finishing out his life in Murray Co., GA. The GA Luffmans are descendants of him and his wife Pricsilla.

Miles bounced around alot, living in Surry, Guilford, Wilkes and Ashe Counties. Assume he was married, but have no proof. He had about 10 children! The OK, TN, and ID Luffmans are descendants of his. One of Miles' children was Milton H. Luffman. Milton married Lucinda Perdue in Surry Co. in 1836.

The "unborn child", William Luffman (the third!), is most likely the William who married Charity Watson in Guilford Co. in 1820 and moved to FLA. The Florida Luffmans are most likely descendants of this child.

Right now I have tons of documents to sort thru and put in some sort of order. As time permits, will update this page and add more detail. Feel free to e-mail me with questions, etc., but please don't ask me to "send me everything you have" as that's a rather large request! One of these days I hope to have all the data organized......as soon as I don't have to go to work each morning!!
