I am researching the Matthias family from Stendal, Germany. Johann and Karoline Matthias came to America in 1882. Their journey began in Hamburg to Bremen to New York on ship the Neckar. They first settled in Carbondale, Kansas and soon moved to a Perry, Kansas. The couple had six children, only William remained in Perry. Where he married Katie Hemme, and where they raised eight children. In addition, I'm researching the Hemme family also from Stendal, Germany. It seems the two families may have known each other prior to coming to America. Johann and Catharina Hemme came to America in 1857, they entered through the port of New Orleans destine for St Louis, Missouri. They finally settled with their four boys in Thompsonville, Kansas. The youngest Fredrich married Amelia Hook who was raised by Felix and Margareta DonDeville (Alsace, France). Fred and Amelia had one daughter, Katie who married William Matthias above. Any information on either family would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. |
