About Our Family Research

The Macek-Matcek Family meets for Family Reunion each fall, either in Brazos, Burleson or Wharton counties.

Tomas Macek, came to American from Vyzovice Moravia according to records of the Burleson County Brethren Church, was twice married. The first marriage occured in the "old country" to Frantiska Bravencova. Of that union six children were born, four sons: Tomas (1877) Pavel (1880) Tomas (1882) and Frantisek born (1885.) and one daughter, Frances (1887) These births were recorded prior to their voyage to America. They came to this country thru Bremen, Germany and arrived at Galveston June 8, 1887. Charlie Matcek was born in Caldwell, Texas and was the only one of the Tomas-Frances children to spell his name with the "T". Frances died when Charlie was four years old.

Tomas remarried Anna Mikulastic Hlavaty in 1899 ,(who had a daughter Anna by her previous husband Tomas Hlavaty) They had eight children: Albina ( m. Surovik) Rudolph (m. Kazmir) Henry (m.Hejl) Alois (unmarried) Ludwig (m. Kazmir) Walter (m. Horcicia) Edward(m.Shupak) Milady (m.Kazmir)

The family of Tomas II from the first marriage migrated to Wharton County, the family of Paul lived in Wichita Falls for a short time and the family of Charlie Matcek remained in Burleson County. Family members of the second marriage,(Edward, Walter) due to shortage of work in Burleson County moved to Brazos county.
