Notes for J
OHANNIS PETER GEBER:
In 1760, Peter came to Liganore, PA. Later with Elder John Slifer from York and Lancaster Counties (PA) and Peter Miller, Peter Gaver settled on the Broad Run (south of Burkittsville, MD)
In 1770, he obtained from David Arnold a 49 acre tract of land know as "I Got It At Last". On the deed, his name appears as Peter Gaber. He also purchased a 30 acre tract known as "The Mountain" and on January 14, 1771 purchased ajacent land from Andrew Arnold.
Peter was a decon in the Broad Run Church of the Bretheren, now know as Pleasant View Chruch. He gave the church permission to cut timber on his land to heat the church.
During the American Revolutionary War, members of the Brethern community were fined for refusing to take the Oath of Allegiance or joing the milita. After the war, his 860 acres of land was confiscated. 815 acres were awarded to Major Joshua Harley who had saved the life of General Horatio Gates during the war.
Peter then moved to Birkittsville where he may have lived until his death. Arecord dated 1789 mentions that Peter Gaver obtained 197 acres of land which he called "Gaver's Recovery". Later David Arnold bought the old Gaver farm which remained in the Arnold family until the mid 1900"s.
