Our branch of the Maxwells can be traced back to Nathaniel Maxwell in the early 1700s. Nathaniel came to the USA from Scotland and is believed to have decended from the Maxwell clan of Castle Dacrlayerock. Finding records earlier than Nathaniel is very difficult as there where many Maxwell clans in Scotland.
