Notes for Captain Amos Jillson:
About the age of 17, Amos Jillson went to Norwich, Connecticut to learn the trade of stocking guns.He married Mehitable Hunn, then separated from her before 1776.
He returned to Attleboro, Massachusetts and served as an Ensign in Col. Christopher Lippitt's Regiment which was raised in January 1776. His name also appeared as Lieutenant in Captain Gideon Westcott's Company, which belonged to Col. Robert Elliott's Regiment of Artillery, raised in Rhode Island.He also recruited men from 27 December 1776 to 25 April 1777.He was a Lieutenant till 23 June 1777, he was then appointed Captain Lieutenant. His wages for 12 months and seven days was 135 pounds 17 shillings.
After the war ended, he married Hannah.
He started to build a homestead in Attleboro, but it burned down before he finished it.He moved his family to Troy, New York in 1792.He accidently drowned in January 1794, in the Hudson River near Troy, NY.

He was known as "Big John."On 6 April 1758, he enlisted in the New York Provincial Troops.He and his brother Sebastain married daughters of Isaac Van Valkenburg.
On 9 April 1767, Sebastain was listed in Captain Cornelus Dubois' Militia Company in Catskill, New York.
They moved in 1773 from Claverack to Fairbanks at Indian Meadows. In 1776, they purchased a right in the Susquehanna Company and all moved to Wysox, Pennsylvania.They were among the first settlers in the area.
During the American Revolution, on 20 May 1778, the Stropes (except for Sebastain) and VanValkenburgs were attacked by Indians under the command of Joseph Brandt, the Oquaga Indian chief, given a commission by the British Government.Queen Esther, the influential Indian women, with French Montour ancestry, met with them before they were taken to Canada. They were captured and taken to Canada, where they were held captive for three years.The men were separated from the women and children, and were sent to different parts of Quebec.Everyone except Johannes were released three years later, with a group of 300 captives.They were taken to Crown Point, New York, then to Whitehall, New York, near Lake George. Sebastain, who had not been captured, met them there.Johannes was not released until the war ended.The Indians tortured John and left large scars on his body, which he bore for the rest of his life.After being released, John returned to Wysox, Pennsylvania.
