Notes for LAURA EMILY KING: Known to her family as Aunt Em. Unmarried She was the youngest daughter of Evaline King. Her red hair was a key to her unusual personality. Although she never married whe was a party in a number of romances and until her dying day, she had a twinkle in her eye, that told you she was a person with a sense of humor. She was never bound by convention and was wont to do whatever appealed to her. This might take the form of a hat or dress or conduct that often jarred the family and the community. At a time when women of middle age were supposed to be sedate, she was not above appearing in a daring bathing suit and disporting herself among the young fry and they enjoyed the water sports. She was always ready with a word for any situation or condition that might arise. When her hair began to grey, she colored it (unusual at that time). She was known as "one of the most colorful people ever known." by Conrow Miller (her nephew) |
