I am currently researching the Maxwell side of the Family. My Great Great Grandfather James W. Maxwell was a Lt. at Fort Walla Walla, Washington Territory. In 1868 he had a son with Susan Capt John, a Nez Perce from the Asotin area and in 1870 they had a second son, my Great Grandfather Starr Jacob Maxwell. I have found very little on James W. Maxwell at this point, i've been told he left the Idaho area and went to Oakland California and started another family. He also had a brother named Victor and they may have been from Scotland. My Great Grandfather Starr was born in a teepee in Asotin Washington on May 10 1870 and died on Feb 7 1940 in Lapwai Idaho. He was a man of many vocations and operated in both the white and indian worlds with ease. He rose to the rank of Sergeant with Troop L 4th Cavalry at Fort Walla Walla, he performed as an interpreter and advocate for the Nez Perce tribe, he was a notary public for Nez Perce County Idaho, and he preached fire and brimstone as a Presbyterian and then later a Methodist minister. Starr fathered nine children with two wives, with his first wife Edna Laura Jackson Silverwood, my Grandfather Martin Miles Maxwell (12/18/03 - 06/24/82) was born. My Grandfather had two sons with Neome Ward of Gifford Idaho, my Uncle Miles Isaac Maxwell (05/25/23 - 08/10/79) and my Father, William Martin Maxwell born December 8 1925 in Craigmont Idaho and died March 7 1979 in Las Angeles California. My Father was a veteran of World War II and survived a German POW camp. If anyone can provide any information about the Maxwell or Capt John line it would be greatly appreciated.
