I take great pride in being able to trace my family and to build my family tree. The May family is one of the oldest and largest in the state of Kentucky. I have done a lot of research and found some very interesting information about the Mays of Kentucky. Anyone who has additional information about the Mays is invited to share it with me. Please e-mail me or contact me by phone or mail. If you have any old photos of the Mays and their ancestors, I would love to include them in this website. I was born On November 20, 1935 on Runyons Branch at Pinsonfork, Kentucky. My parents were Alonzo and Agnes May. I had one sister, Ruby Jean, also born on Runyons Branch on September 13, 1937. She died on June 27, 1998. She was married to Bradley (Boone) Gross, Jr. from Lower Johns Creek. They had five kids, Patricia Ann, Jerry, Timmy, Kathy and Scotty. My mother's parents were Jeffie May and Mima Jane (King) May. My grandmother died on Sept. 8, 1924. My grandfather later married Inis Vipperman, daughter of Robert Vipperman of Kimper, Kentucky. My grandfather Jeffie was the son of John Henderson May and Judy (Stotts) May of McAndrews, Kentucky. My father was the son of William Anderson May and Allie (Stump) May. William Anderson was the son of Elijah May and Susie (Pauley) May of Dix Fork of Sidney, Kentucky. My grandmother Allie, was the daughter of William David Stump and Martha Jane Stump of McAndrews, Kentucky. Grandpa Stump was known to everyone as "Preacher" Bill Stump. After his first wife, Martha Jane died, he married Lona McCoy, daughter of Jasper and Ella McCoy of Zebulon, Kentucky. My grandpa Stump was shot and killed by Tilden May in 1945. Tilden was drinking at the time and forced his way into the Stump house to try to kill my great uncle, Offie, out of jealousy, but grandpa stepped in between them and was killed himself, saving Offie's life. After he had shot grandpa six times, Tilden then beat grandpa with his pistol until he was almost dead. He also broke his arm. Grandpa died enroute to the hospital in Williamson, W. Va. |
