| I am researching the geneaology of my parents, Charles Mayberry and Louise Irene Mary Richards (Richard). Charles and his twin Harley were born July 26, 1913, in a windswept one-room shack in Cambria, Wyoming, a mining town that no longer exists. He died Nov. 7, 1987, in Campbellsburg, Ky., while visiting Harley. He served 20 years, including World War II, as a submarine sailor. Louise was born Aug. 31, 1924, in Middle Sackville New Brunswick, Canada, and died Sept 14, 2001, three days after 9/11, in New Haven, Conn., where she had grown up and returned to care for her aging mother. Louise was a pure-bred Acadian French-Canadian whose heritage sweeps back uninterrupted to the very first French families to come to the New World and settle in the Maritime Provinces in the 1630s to the 1650s. Her ancestor Michel Hache dit Gallant (1663-1737) was the first permanent European settler of Prine Edward Island. |
