I have been able to only find my ancestors back to Thomas Mayes, born in County Antrim, in Ireland, about 1830. Thomas married an Isabella Allison, born in County Down, in Ireland, about 1832. They moved from Ireland to Girvan in Scotland and later members of the family immigrated to New Zealand and Australia.

The surnames of these early ancestors vary from Mayze to Mayse to Mayes and Allison to Ellison which causes some difficulty.
