Notes for John Whittington:
Some sources list John Whittington as the son of Smart Whittington, but this is not true.Smart Whittington died as a young boy, in his teens at the oldest, and did not marry or have children.
John Whittington may be the son of John and Johanna Whittington of Maryland.
Note: John and Elizabeth Whittington probably have more children than currently listed. They may have more sons who are the fathers of Grief Whittington and Jared (Jarrat) Whittington.Or sons Edward and William may also have more children than currently known. So that John and Elizabeth Whittington's grandsons Grief and Jared Whittington can be included in the Whittington Descendancy (even though their father's identities are uncertain) they are listed as the children of "Unknown A. Whittington" and "Unknown B. Whittington."
CHRISTENING RECORDS OF ALBEMARLE PARISH, VIRGINIA list two children born to John and Elizabeth Whittington:
Owen Whittington, born December 13, 1747, Godparents: John Owen, Richard King, Jr. and Elizabeth Sowersberry.
Sarah Whittington, born December 22, 1750, Godparents: Edward Whittington, Mary Enson, and Jane Hern.
I don't know if this is the same John and Elizabeth Whittington who are also the parents of John, Jr., Edward, Mary, Frederick, and Howell Whittington.
Notes for Elizabeth Whittington: The lineage of the Elizabeth Whittington who married John Whittington on June 20, 1723 is inconsistant in various records. She is most often listed as the daughter of William Whittington III and Elizabeth Taylor, but there is also the theory that Elizabeth Whittington's parents are Joshua Whittington and Elizabeth Nairn.Elizabeth Whittington (who married John Whittington in 1623) is more likely the sister, rather than the daughter of Joshua Whittington.Joshua was too young to have been Elizabeth's father. He has a daughter also named Elizabeth, but she was born much later, circa 1730-57, and her husband is unknown. |

viii. | Unknown B. Whittington, born Bet. 1726 - 1740 in Albemarle Co. Virginia. |
Notes for Unknown B.
