Portrait of Tabitha Scarburgh (1639-1717), said to have been painted in London by Sir Peter Lely, reproduced in the book "Virginia's Eastern Shore." Tabitha, daughter of Edmund Scarburgh and Mary Littleton, first married John Smart abt 1652. Their daughter, Tabitha Scarburgh Smart (abt. 1652-1730) was the first wife of William Whittington II (1649-1720). Tabitha's 1st cousin once removed, Esther Littleton (abt 1665-1689), was the third wife of William Whittington II. Tabitha Scarburgh was also married to Devereux Browne, John Custis, and Edward Hill. Her name is given as Madame Tabitha Hill in her will of abt. 1717 in Accomack Co. Virginia.
