Could this man be Diannah Hillsman Farrar Pruitt Thompson's (1806-1894) third husband James D. Whaley? Diannah married Whaley on Dec. 6, 1874 in Montague Co. Texas. These two photos are from Martha Dianne Pruitt-Ponder-Catledge's (1860-1965) photo album, that had belonged to her first husband Thomas Malone Ponder (1860-1883).
