Phillip Thurman Heidle (son of John Hidle and Mary Blakely) was born August 05, 1815 in Edgefield District, South Carolina, and died August 29, 1862 in Manassas, Prince William Co. Virginia. He married Mary Elizabeth Britt on March 23, 1845 in Monroe Co. Georgia, daughter of Elisha D. Britt and Elizabeth Jones.

Phillip Thurman Heidle, son of John Hidle and Mary Blakely, was born August 5, 1815 in Edgefield District, South Carolina, the third born of six known children.

Phillip T. Heidle, at age 20, enlisted for service in the Creek War in Georgia on May 27, 1836 in Captain Russell's Company, Georgia Volunteers, and was honorably discharged on July 13, 1836 at Columbus, Georgia.

Phillip, at age 29, married Mary Elizabeth Britt 19, daughter of Elisha D. Britt and Elizabeth Jones, on March 23, 1845 in Monroe County, Georgia. Phillip and Mary became parents of ten children, which included two sets of twins, all born in Monroe County, Georgia.

In the 1850 Census of Monroe County, Georgia "Phillip Hidle" age 35, and his wife, "Mary (Britt) Hidle" age 24, (plus their three children) are listed in the household of his widowed mother, "Mary Hidle" age 65 (born in SC, $1000 Property Value, listed as "Idiotic"), along with "Fleming Hidle" age 24.

Phillip T. Heidle bought his brother John B. Hidle's one-sixth share of their father's estate in Monroe County then in the posession of their mother, Mary Blakely Hidle, in 1851:
John B. Hidle of Pike County, Ga "For and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred dollars, in had paid, "...sell unto Phillip T. Hidle of county of Monroe of said State, all my right, title, interest or claim...to the share of one sixth part, of the dower of Mary Hidle, resting in me at the death of the said Mary Hidle, to lot of land number one hundred, south half in the Eleventh District of Monroe County."
November 9, 1851. Registered November 18, 1880. All of the dower land was owned by Phillip except for Dionicious Hidle's portion, which was sold to James Lyons.

Phillip's youngest brother, Fleming Hidle, died young in 1853. He knew he was going to die and left a will appointing Phillip T. Heidle his sole executor. Fleming's will divided his net estate between his mother, Mary Blakely Heidle, and sister, Frances Heidle.

Philip T. Heidle, at age 46, enlisted for service in the Confederate States Army for the Civil War on October 14, 1861 as a Private in Company D, 31st Regiment, Georgia Infantry. Two months earlier his elder brother William R. Hidle had been mortally wounded at Orange Court House, Virginia and died several days later. Phillip was discharged two weeks later with a disability on October 27, 1861. Phillip reenlisted as a Private on February 26, 1862 (pension record lists March 10, 1862) in Monroe Co. Georgia in Company B 45th Georgia Regiment. Phillip's brother Dionicious Hidle and his son Sanford Heidle both enlisted on the same day as Phillip and all three served in the same company. Phillip and Mary Heidle's youngest child, daughter Emma Thurman Heidle, was born in his absence on April 10, 1862. On April 16, 1862 Phillip's eldest brother Dionicious "Di" Hidle died from a sickness in Goldsboro, North Carolina during his service to the Confederacy.

Phillip Thurman Heidle, age 47, was killed in the battle of Second Manassas on August 29, 1862 in Virginia. The Heidle family was devastated like so many others by the Civil War. Phillip and two of his brothers, and two nephews died during the war. Phillip and his brother Dionicious were brought back to Georgia for burial by Phillip's brother-in-law John T. Britt. The brothers were buried side-by-side near Jug Town, Upson County, Georgia or in Pike County.

In 1891 Phillip's widow Mary Britt Heidle filed for a widows pension based on his service in the Civil War and received payments until 1899. An Indian War Pension Application dated 1894 was also filed by Mary Heidle; #3368, Certificate #3250.
