Drury Pruett was born 1762 in Halifax County, Virginia, the son of David Pruett and Amey Bright. Drury married Nancy Melinda Beddington between 1785-1790 in Pendleton, South Carolina. Drury and Nancy Melinda, called "Linny," had at least nine children together, but so far the identities of most of them are unknown.

December 3, 1787- Drury Prewitt granted 100 acres on Dutchman's Creek, north side of the Tyger River, Spartanburg, South Carolina by Gov. Thomas Pinckney.

Patent Land Survey 1785-1788, Book C, page 257- lists "Drury Pruetts" with 100 acres on Dutchman's Creek, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

December 24, 1791 "Drury Prewit and wife Linna to Thomas Evatt; for 20 sterling sold 100 acres on both sides of Dutchman's Creek and North side of Tyger River; border East Drury Prewit, and others vacant; grant Dec. 3, 1787 Gov. Thos. Pinckney to Drury Prewit. Witness- William Prewett, Moses Prewitt, and David Prewitt.
Signed Drury and Linna Prewitt's marks. Witness oath Feb. 9, 1792 William and Moses Prewitt to Samuel Lancaster. Rec. May 30, 1792."
NOTE: The witnesses- Moses Prewitt is Drury's brother, David Prewitt is his father, and William is his uncle (David's half-brother).

October 26, 1819 Drury Pruett states in a deed (BOOK O PAGE 450) in Pendleton District, South Carolina that David Pruett is his father and the deed is also witnessed by Drury's son Ansel B. Pruett.

Drury Pruett owned land on Generostee Creek, Pendleton District, South Carolina.

Drury Pruett is listed in the 1790 to 1820 Censuses of Pendleton District, South Carolina.

Drury Pruett with his father, David Pruett, and brothers; Thomas, and Michael, moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia, in 1823. In 1826, Michael and Drury moved to Hall County, Georgia.

On Sept 5, 1826, Malinda Pruett of the State of Georgia, relict of Drury Pruett, late of Hall County, Georgia, quit claim deed.

SPECULATION: Could one of Drury Pruett's unknown sons be the Andrew H. Pruett listed on the same page of the 1840 Randolph Co. Alabama census as son Ansel B. Pruett? Andrew H. Pruett is listed as the same age category as Ansel 30-40 years old in 1840 and is also a farmer.
