In 1863 Mary Whittington, age 82, died intestate in Amite County, Mississippi. Court records include the following: "Petition of Gray Anders and Mary K. Anders his wife represent that in the year 1863 Mary Whittington late of Amity County departed this life intestate. In Oct term 1863 letters of administration of her estate were granted to George Whittington of Amite County. Said Mary K. Anders is an heir at law and one of the distributees of said estate. Filed Jan 15, 1868. Jordan Whittington, administrator of the estate of Mary Whittington deceased shows that besides himself the following persons are the only parties interested in the said settlement, namely: Mary K., wife of Gray Anders, Wade Whittington, Minerva Freeman and Jane Freeman a minor whose guardian in Gray Anders who resides in this County, Elkana Whittington who resides in the state of Louisiana, and whose post office is Bayou Chitot, Wade Ellis who resides in the state of Texas, and whose post office is Jasper, Evaline Richey wife of Stephen Richey and Mary Rusk wife of _____ Rusk who reside in Texas and whose post office is Liberty, Rebecca Richy wife of Uel Richy and Caroline Lynch Wife of Mathew Lynch who reside in Rapide Parish of Louisiana whose post office is unknown, all of whom have prayed to be a party to said suit. 8 May 1871. Signed George Whittington and May 1855 Winston Wildinson appointed guardian."
