Includes NotesNotes for Oscar Farrar Pruett:
Oscar Farrar Pruett was the eldest son of Francis Marion Pruett and Frances Caroline Pruitt. He was named by his great grandmother Diannah Hillsman Farrar, called Grandma Whaley, who gave him her maiden name, Farrar, as his middle name. Oscar was18 when his mother died in 1897. In the 1900 Camp County census Oscar is not found living with his family, this being shortly after his father had remarried.

The day before his 22nd birthday in September 1900 Oscar married Rosa Bell Jordan, age 15, the daughter of neighbors Joseph Jackson Jordan and Emma T. (Heidle) Jordan. A month later his sister Dora married Rosa's brother Henry M. Jordan, and in 1908 (after Oscar's death) Oscar's brother Virgil married Rosa's sister Willie Dell Jordan.

Oscar and Rosa became parents in July 1901 when their first daughter Evelyn Mae Pruett was born. Oscar's father moved to Greer County, Oklahoma in 1901 with family but Oscar and Rosa remained in Texas. Oscar bought 77 acres of land in Camp County on September 20, 1901, and a second track of 25 and 1/4 acres on March 12, 1902. Two weeks before Christmas 1903 the young couple welcomed their second daughter Ada Dell Pruett. Tragedy soon befell the happy thriving family. In October 1904 baby Ada Dell Pruett died at the age of 10 months.

In 1905 Oscar 27, and Rosa 20, died within two months of eachother. According to Willa Jean Bailey, the couple's granddaughter, Oscar and Rosa became ill with "Black Jaundice" a form of Malaria. They were treated with Stricknine which was the custom at the time. Willa says "Well it not only killed them both, but Mothers' (Evelyn Mae Pruett) baby sister (Ada Dell Pruett) who was nursing." Rosa died in October and Oscar succumbed two months later in December 1905. Oscar and Rosa Pruett were buried in Leesburg Cemetery in Camp County, Texas together with their baby Ada Dell Pruett.

Oscar and Rosa's young daughter Evelyn Mae 4, was the only survivor of the family. The Camp County Texas courts placed Evelyn in the custody of her maternal grandparents Joseph J. and Emma Jordan. Ruben Pruitt (son of William Malone and Melissia Pruitt) bought Oscar's farm.
