| I am researching my mothers ancestors with the surname RAUNIG. The family's homeland was Austria. My ancestors were from the Karnten district. My Great Grandfather, Alois Raunig was born 14 June 1866 in Strassburg, Austria. Many other ancestors were from neighboring villages. Alois came to America prior to 1900 - settling in Montana at Stockett <Cascade County>, where he homesteaded and raised his families. His first wife, Elisabeth Spendau died in 1900. This union had 4 children, one of whom was my Grandfather, Gustav Raunig. The second wife, Maria Weiser. This union had 5 children. All but one of all the children were born in Montana. Villages I have obtained birth data from are: Strassburg, Lieding, Hohenfeld, Zwischenwassern, Fohnsdorf I'd appreciate any input about this surname. |
