I am researching the ancestors of my grandfather, Robert Lee May of Cuba, Sumter County, Alabama. He married Lillian Patricia Daniels on January 7, 1892, and had five children, William, Florence, Robert Henry Sr., Kathalene, and Edwin. I have fragmented data from as far back as 1765. At that time, a Capt. Patrick Boggan May (son of Sir Walter Boggan of Castle Fern, Donegal County, Ireland), came to the US. Later, a Patrick Boggan, Jr. married Martha Davidson and went to Alabama in 1850. A Jane Boggan married a Pleasant May and went to Alabama in 1850 also. This may be the son of a Pleasant May of Ansen County, North Carolinia in about 1810. Later notes I came across refer to a General Patrick May, who came to Clark County, Alabama from North Carolinia before 1818. In 1818, he was the second settler in Newbern, Green County, Alabama, and the first Chief Justice of Green County. Newbern is now Hale County. I would like very much to sort this all out and document the source material. |
