John Ell married Lena Bell Gibson September 14, 1913 and soon after moved to Bisbee Arizona and worked in the copper mines. They had their first three children there; Ellen Florence, Lester Arthur and Fred Elmore. When they returned they lived in his Dad’s old Highpoint place and Alice was born there. He worked for the City of Hot Springs and they told him he had to live in the City if he wanted to work there so, they moved to the old Fordyce place off Park Avenue. While there Edward and Lewis was born and the oldest child, Ellen, died while she was only eight years old. They then moved to an old house off highway 88. It’s now called Honeycutt Street. That’s where his Dad lived before moving to Highpoint. Soon after that house burned and they moved to an old hotel close by. This is where Elsie was born. Then they moved to a two room house while rebuilding where Ray was born. John bought some old sawmill cabins and rebuilt and lived there until he died. This is the house where Elnora Lurah, Nellie Elva and Roy Virgil were born.
John was a heavy equipment operator and worked, not only for the City of Hot Springs but, Ed B. Mooney, Smith Brothers Construction and for a period of time they moved to Magnet Cove and worked for the Magnet Cove Mines While working there they lived on the old Shepherd place on Smokey ridge and the Tisdale place. While away from Hot Springs Lester (his oldest son) married Elma Ferguson and they lived in their home off Highway 88.
John had arthritis very bad. He thought it was from being tense while operating the heavy equipment. His hands were drawn, His knees were swollen and he eventually could net even get out of bed and had to be lifted up to get into a chair. He remained that way until he died March 29, 1955.
John was well respected in the Community. He was on the School Board at Cutter Morning Star, The driving force in forming the new addition to the Morning Star Cemetery and very active in the Morning Star Methodist Church..
