The Ruth Dowden Family Home Page

I am researching the Dowding, DOWDEN family from County Cork, Ireland. George Dowden and his brother John Swete came to the USA in 1847. George married Mary Melvin BROOKS in Richmond, VA on 12Jun1856. They had four children Alexander Brooks, b.15Jun1857 d.Aug1858, George Alexander b.27Jan1858 d.23Nov1919 in Wash.DC, Allen b.1860 d.? and James B. b.1861 d.?. George A. married Kate CONOLLY(from Galway, Ireland) in Wash.DC 23Jan1890. They had four children George A.Jr., William Christopher (my father), Robert Melvin and Frances Belcher.
In addition, I am researching the DORSEY, DARCEY family from Prince George County, MD. In 1772 John and his wife Elizabeth King had Edward (one of eleven children). Edward married Hannah PEACOCK 28Dec1799. They had three children, Elizabeth, Mary and a son. Would like to know more about the son. I think Edward and Hannah had a grandson, William Edward Darcey, b.28Jan1827 in MD d.11Nov1912 in DC. He married Anna Maria GOLDSMITH 25Aug1853 in DC. They had thirteen children, one being John Francis (my grandfather).

Other family names that are connected are Archibald CUNNINGHAM b.1796 in Linlithgow, Scotland d.14Feb1875 in DC. His son William Archibald m. Jessie LIPSCOMB. They had eight chldren, the forth, Sarah Genevieve, my Grandmother.

Any infromation would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.
