He was a stricking example of western pioneers , known to his friends and the rest of the Gage family as " Big Bill " because he was a giant of a man , standing over six feet two inches in his bare feet , and he was very strong. He had somewhat peculiar relgious views and convictions. He settled in the northen part of Oakland County, Michigan , in a romantic section of the country. He made farming his business while preaching too , exhorting the scatered residents of the vicinity. He represented his country in the Legislature in 1843.
